ENERGY, PRODUCTION, AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
SPECIFIC MEASURES AT MEYER-HOLSEN
We base our business decisions on a long-term perspective.
Our ISO 50001-certified energy management system helps us systematically track and evaluate energy consumption and implement improvements in our production processes.
The production of clay roof tiles requires high firing temperatures and is therefore energy-intensive. Our tile designed for long-term use on buildings. We provide a 40-year full warranty for them in accordance with the applicable warranty terms and conditions.
Clay and Loam
Material: Clay.
We tile clay and loam from regional deposits to manufacture our tile . Extraction is carried out in accordance with the relevant regulatory permits. Exhausted areas are reclaimed in accordance with the approved guidelines.
The REACH regulation is complied with.
Energy
As part of our energy management system, we track specific energy consumption and implement measures in the areas of combustion technology, process control, and heat recovery.
At our Rahden location, we generate a portion of the electricity we need using our own photovoltaic system. The following figures refer to the period from January 1 to December 31, 2025.
In 2025, our in-house photovoltaic system generated 787,430 kWh of electricity.
Of this amount, 783,790 kWhwas used directly on-site.
In addition, we purchased electricity from the public grid. For this amount of electricity, our electricity supplier redeemed certificates of origin from the Federal Environment Agency’s Register of Certificates of Origin.
Certificates of origin document that a corresponding amount of electricity was generated from renewable energy sources and was not marketed multiple times as green electricity. The information refers exclusively to electricity consumption at the Hüllhorst and Rahden sites during the period from January 1 to December 31, 2025. Other energy sources, in particular fuels, motor fuels, and process heat, are not included.
Production at two locations
We manufacture tile our facilities in Hüllhorst and Rahden in the Minden-Lübbecke district. From there, we supply our customers both domestically and internationally.
Vehicle fleet
For a portion of the fuel we purchase, we acquire offsets through our fuel card providers. These do not alter the emissions generated by the operation of our vehicles. Our vehicle fleet also includes electric vehicles. When replacements are due, we assess which areas of operation are technically and operationally suitable for additional electric vehicles.
Packaging
We tile Euro pallets with a deposit and return system to transport our tile . Returned pallets that are still usable are reused.
PE films, strapping bands, and cardboard boxes are collected separately at the facility and sent to specialized recycling companies for processing.
Firing Breakage
Coke fines are processed and, depending on their material properties, used, for example, as a mineral building material for sports field surfaces.
Process water in a separate loop
The process water generated during roof tile production is treated and reused in the production process. No process wastewater from roof tile production is discharged into the public sewer system.
Employees and administration
We offer e-bike leasing to our employees. To reduce paper usage, 95% of our customers receive order confirmations, invoices, and shipping notices via email—which reduces paper usage. Our system for electronically processing incoming invoices further reduces paper usage.
Plant Operations and Environmental Projects
Our production facilities are operated in accordance with the requirements of the Federal Clean Air Act. The relevant emission levels are measured and monitored in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Since 2012, the facilities in question have been participating in the European Emissions Trading System.
Advertising
We primarily provide product information and technical documentation in digital form. We use printed materials only where they are needed.
According to our hosting provider, the data center we use is powered by electricity from renewable energy sources.
Environmental data for tile
Our tile made primarily from clay and loam.
An externally verified environmental product declaration in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN 15804 is available for the product group covered:
EPD-BDZ-20210267-IBG2-DE
Valid through November 10, 2026
The EPD contains life cycle assessment data presented in a neutral manner. It does not constitute a general assessment of the products' environmental performance.
Separate Waste Disposal
PE films, paper, and cardboard are collected separately at our plants and sent to specialized waste management companies for recycling.
ISO 50001:2018 - Certified energy management
- Systematic Monitoring - Energy consumption and key energy inputs are regularly monitored and evaluated.
- Establishing Measures – Energy goals and improvement measures are defined, implemented, and monitored.
- Continuous Improvement – Energy performance and the energy management system are continuously reviewed and improved.
The certification applies to the energy management system at our plants in Hüllhorst and Rahden. It is not a product certification, nor is it a general assessment of the environmental performance of our tile.
