Castello (custom-made)

When it comes to the demanding restoration of historic buildings and the roofing of unique structures, Meyer-Holsen ranks among Europe’s leading suppliers of ceramic roofing tiles, thanks to its products and customized solutions.

With the Castello model, we have reinterpreted a traditional design. The Castello was developed for individual restoration and historic preservation projects. The design, color, and technical specifications are coordinated with the project stakeholders on a case-by-case basis.

Brick diversity for a Berlin industrial monument - Meyer-Holsen at the Friedrichshagen waterworks

A project like this doesn't come along every day: we supplied tiles that had to meet the highest aesthetic and technical requirements for the refurbishment of the roofs of the historic pumping machine houses A and B of the Friedrichshagen waterworks in Berlin in line with the preservation order.

The monument preservation authorities set clear specifications: Tile shape, cut length and, above all, a natural color play of three different shades of red were to match the original covering as closely as possible.

We supplied the entire roof area of approx. 3,200 m²:

  • Around 50,000 hollow tiles for the main roofs
  • around 7,500 Sankt Moritz tower tiles for the characteristic tower surfaces
  • approx. 3,500 Mönch-und-Nonne bricks with a hand-stroke look for battlements
  • as well as numerous shaped tiles, ridge and hip tiles for elaborate details
